Join local partners in preparation for North American First People's Day in Akron and Summit County by attending the following events on Sunday, October 4th.
History of the Portage Path - Free
Join Summit Metro Parks staff as they lead a hike from Big Bend Trailhead to the northern terminus statue on the Portage Path. Two statues were designed by Peter Jones (Seneca/Onondaga). The hike begins at 10 a.m. from 1337 Merriman Rd., Akron. It will include walking on the towpath trail. Please dress accordingly and wear appropriate footwear in case of inclement weather. Walk Portage Path - Free
This event is free and open to the public. Those interested in walking a portion of the Portage Path with elders and students of the Northern Cheyenne Nation, Lippman School students and local partners, may gather at the vacant lot across the street from the Portage Path CLC, 55 S. Portage Path. The walk will kick off at 1:30 p.m.. It is one kilometer ending at the John Brown House/Summit County Historical Society, 514 Diagonal Road.
Guests may also join the event at the John Brown House for drumming and dancing at 2 p.m. on the lawn.
