2020 Tour Season Opening Delayed

May 01, 2020

The Summit County Historical Society of Akron, OH will postpone its opening for the season until further notice in an effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 following the recommendations of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Health Department to "Stay at Home," the National Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

"At this time, the health and safety of our volunteers, staff and potential visitors are of the utmost concern.  Our properties will continue to be monitored while staff and volunteers work from home," states Society president & CEO Leianne Neff Heppner.

As more information on the pandemic is released by state and national contacts, the Society may make future changes to our opening date.  Please be aware that all events planned for the month of April and May, including the annual meeting and any outdoor hikes, have been cancelled. The Society will share any news for our opening and future activities via our website, Facebook and the news media (print and radio public service announcements).

We appreciate your continued support of the Society and other like organizations while we remail closed to the public. Please see our social media outlets to stay connected and to share your history stories. You may contact us via email at schs@summithistory.org or leave a voicemail at 330.535.1120.

Please consider giving the gift of a Society membership to a family member or friend to help our agency during this time of restricted opening.  It will assist the Society's operations budget and make a great gift for a loved one.  Details on Society membership can be found on our membership page. Membership options are on the bottom of that page.
