Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for volunteers of all ages who would like to get involved with our organization that has been a part of the Akron community since 1924. The Historical Society Service League is looking specifically for people who have an interest in any of the following:
- Serving as a Tour Guide at the Perkins Stone Mansion (465 South Portage Path). Tours are conducted on Wednesdays through Fridays, 1:00P.M. and 3:00P.M. Volunteers must be willing to work at least one complete 3-hour shift a month (or more as desired.) All volunteers must participate in a 2-hour Tour Guide training session prior to beginning work.
- Providing Curatorial Assistance. Volunteers are needed to work with managing the collections inventory, care of artifacts, and exhibition display and design. Training on artifact care is provided.
- Education Outreach to elementary schools. Volunteers provide an in-class program on one of several available topics aimed at the 4th grade level of students. Training is offered, and scheduling is flexible.
- Adult Outreach to assisted living and nursing facilities. Volunteers conduct on-site programs to seniors on a variety of available topics. Training is offered, and scheduling is flexible.
- Gardening assistance. Volunteer help is needed to help maintain the extensive gardens located at the Perkins Stone Mansion and John Brown house locations
