School Field Trips

School Group Rates - $2 per person – reservations required

Located on the historic Portage Path at the corner of Copley Rd. and S. Portage Path, the Perkins Stone Mansion was home to Col. Simon Perkins, his wife Grace Tod Perkins and their eleven children. The mansion and grounds remained in the Perkins family until 1945 when it was purchased by The Summit County Historical Society of Akron.

The 1837 Greek Revival style mansion is supported by four stately barrel columns and enjoys a “widow’s walk” of its roof. On display in the interior are many original pieces of the Perkins family including a tiger maple bedroom suit, the portraits of General Simon Perkins, co-founder of the city of Akron, and his wife Nancy Bishop Perkins, a stand-up writing desk, Hitchcock chairs and a game table. A stately three-storied, cantilevered staircase awaits the arrival of guests as they enter the front door of the home.

To schedule a school tour of the Perkins Stone Mansion and grounds, call The Summit County Historical Society of Akron at 330-535-1120.

School tours available Tuesday through Friday, April through the middle of December. Closed holidays and weekends.
