The Summit County Historical Society (SCHS) is proud to announce its fourth annual Rubber City Road Rally fundraising event. The hottest event on four-wheels will be held on Saturday, September 8th , 2007. The Rubber City Road Rally isn't just about who finishes first... it's part car race, part scavenger hunt, part trivia contest and ALL FUN! This 50's themed-event includes stops at many historically important locations throughout our area, and culminates with a Cruise-In, dinner, live music, and a short live auction. For those who would rather stay in the viewing stands than participate in the race, a dinner-only ticket is also available.
"This is a wonderful event for friends, family, or even co-workers," explained Lynn Metzger, President, SCHS Board of Directors. “This year the race course has been re-designed to be shorter, and we are adding a fun Vintage Car Cruise-In as part of the dinner portion of the event.”
This event is open to the public, and welcomes participants with any type of vehicle, including classic and sports cars. Every car entered must have a driver and a navigator, but may have as many passengers as legally allowed.
The Rally line-up begins at 4:30 p.m., with a green flag beginning the race at 5:00 p.m. Participants will take a specially designed, top-secret course through Summit County, leading them with clues to historically significant landmarks throughout. The checkered flag will be waving at the Perkins Stone Mansion at 6:30 p.m.
After the Rally concludes, guests will attend a delicious dinner with entertainment and dancing on the grounds of the Perkins Stone Mansion. Rally winners will be announced with prizes in many categories. Groups that enter a minimum of five (5) cars are eligible for a special award. Tickets are $100 per person for the Post-Rally dinner only, $125 per person for the Race and Post-Rally dinner.
A $250 Patron ticket provides entrance to a private, Patrons-only "View from the Top!" party to be held Thursday, September 6, 2007. Patrons will be given a private tour of the new rooftop balustrade of the Perkins Stone Mansion, and then the party will continue with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the porch.
Proceeds from this event will provide continuing support to SCHS hands-on local history programs brought to 4th grade school children as well as interactive programs for adults. In addition, funds will support the management of the Simon Perkins Stone Mansion, the home of Akron's founding family; the John Brown House, home of the internationally recognized abolitionist; and the Old Stone School in downtown Akron, as well as preserving thousands of artifacts, books, photographs, and documents.
