Holiday Happenings at the Akron History Exhibit and Lock 3 Park
Antique Toys from SCHS’ collection can be viewed at the Akron History Exhibit
Have you been down to Lock 3 yet? You should go. The Akron History Exhibit (located beneath the State St. Parking Deck) is open Fridays 5-8pm, Saturdays 11-8pm, and Sundays 12-6pm. Enjoy the latest exhibits and displays from the Summit County Historical Society, The University of Akron Archival Services, Hower House, Metro Parks Serving Summit County, and the Lighter-Than-Air Society. The Akron-Summit County Public Library Special Collections Division installed some new digital frames showing images from the Summit Memory database as well. Below are some of the items on display from the Summit County Historical Society.

Coats Purchased from O’Neil’s and Polsky’s Department Stores
While you’re visiting the Exhibit you can purchase a reproduction of the famous Blue Santa of Akron, the oldest known representation of St. Nick found in the Unites States. Other reproductions of the penny toys and marbles made by the American Toy & Marble Manufacturing Company (once located where Lock 3 Park now stands) are also for sale. Blue Santas are $15 a piece.
If you get thirsty, you may visit the concession stand and purchase a special Lock 3 Lager produced by Akron’s very own Thirsty Dog Brewing Company. This refreshing and traditional German style lager is only available at Lock 3! Thirsty Dog’s Twisted Kilt and 12 Dogs of Christmas are also available.
So come down to Lock 3 for some holiday fun this season! For more information on the events, Holiday Market, and other attractions visit the Lock 3 Park website.
